Chemfilm Conversion Coatings

Chemfilm Conversion Coatings is also referred to as Chem Film or Chromate Conversion. These terms all refer to essentially the same process, the electrochemical application of a chromate conversion coating on aluminum. Chem film coating produces a finish which protects from corrosion, assures good paint adhesion and conducts electricity.

The Class 1A coating provides corrosion protection for aluminum and aluminum alloys when left unpainted. The coating also improves adhesion of paint finish systems.

The Class 3 coating provides corrosion protection for electrical and electronic applications where lower electrical resistance contacts are required. The Class 3 coating is thinner than the 1A coating, therefore more susceptible to corrosion.
